What is a fertility clinic?
We’re often asked “what’s the difference between my OBGYN and your fertility clinic?” It’s an excellent question, as both professions provide vital services to their patients.
The primary focus of a fertility clinic is helping couples that, due to medical reasons, have been unable to become pregnant naturally. Perhaps the most important distinction, regarding pregnancy, is that OBGYNs focus on women who are already pregnant, while fertility clinics are assisting women with becoming pregnant.
Fertility clinics have at their disposal a number of highly advanced diagnostic tests and procedures to assist them in a comprehensive medical analysis of a prospective mother or father. Combined with board-certified training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, in addition to board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology, fertility clinics are reproductive specialists – first and foremost. In fact, many women and their partners are realizing that fertility clinics offer a wider scope of knowledge and expertise than their OBGYN, and are opting to visit a fertility clinic rather than starting with their obstetrician.
